Episode 18: Don’t Wait So Long – Rethinking How Organisations Approach Well-being
There’s no shortage of conversation around wellbeing. But making it something organisations genuinely invest in – and act on – is something else entirely.
Sabine Weishaupt has other ideas. She joins Chris today to bring this to the front of the agenda. An experienced leader, coach and trainer, Sabine’s focus is on making employee wellbeing a priority which is what she’s doing at Deutsche Telekom today.
Why do companies struggle to move from words to action, particularly when there is irrefutable evidence of rising stress both in and outside the workplace, increasing burnout, more pressure and less productivity?
As Sabine explains, there are some blocks that explain the issue – people tend to seek help when in crisis rather than preventatively; there is sadly still a stigma around mental health and subsequently a lack of effective communication about what already exists. And a lot of that communication revolves around ‘awareness campaigns’.
So through initiatives like the successful “Mental Mentors Movement – M³”, she is helping build support structures that work before crisis point.
But making this work land requires more than intention.
She talks about the need to combine stories – the human reality – with data that allows organisations to take it seriously and invest. And the proof that we can do it collectively, not alone.
If you’re trying to move wellbeing from something you talk about to something that actually works inside your organisation, this conversation will give you a grounded, practical starting point.
